Ultimate Universe Key Issues: Ultimate Wolverine, Spider-Man and One Year In
The Ultimate Universe issues collectors watch, including Ultimate Spider-Man #1, the Wolverine debut in One Year In #1 and Ultimate Wolverine #1.
Marvel's Ultimate Universe is a separate line of comics with new versions of Marvel's best-known heroes. It relaunched in January 2024 with Ultimate Spider-Man #1 by Jonathan Hickman and Marco Checchetto, and has grown into a full line of ongoing series. This guide covers the issues collectors watch and how to compare graded copies.
What is the Ultimate Universe?
The current Ultimate Universe is a world reshaped by the Maker, an evil version of Reed Richards. Its heroes are new takes on familiar characters, with different histories from the main Marvel Universe. The first wave of titles included Ultimate Spider-Man, Ultimate Black Panther, Ultimate X-Men and Ultimates.
Ultimate Universe issues collectors watch
| Issue | Released | Why collectors want it |
|---|---|---|
| Ultimate Spider-Man #1 | January 2024 | The first issue of the new Ultimate Spider-Man series by Hickman and Checchetto. |
| Ultimate Universe: One Year In #1 | December 11, 2024 | A one-shot that debuts the Ultimate versions of Wolverine and Nick Fury, by Deniz Camp, Jonas Scharf, Chris Condon and Alessandro Cappuccio. |
| Ultimate Wolverine #1 | January 2025 | The first issue of Ultimate Wolverine by Chris Condon and Alessandro Cappuccio, which introduces Wolverine as the Winter Soldier, an agent of the Maker. |
Because Wolverine first appears in One Year In #1, collectors treat it as a key issue for the character, alongside Ultimate Wolverine #1.
How to compare graded Ultimate comics
- Cover and edition: each issue has several covers, including ratio variants and exclusives. Read the full title and the label. Our guides to ratio variants and printings and editions explain the differences.
- Grade: compare copies of the same cover at the same grade. A 9.4, 9.6 and 9.8 of one issue can be priced very differently. See the comic book grading scale.
- Signatures: a 2X or 3X signed copy names every signer on the label. Compare the names on the label with the listing, and check whether the signature is witnessed Signature Series or CGC x JSA.
